Sarkar and one of his associates Kaushal alias Kimmi had recently fired shots on a Delhi-based builder Omender Singh's house in order to intimidate him to extort Rs one lakh from him.
Police said that Omender himself has a criminal record and has even been booked under Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) along with slain dreaded gangster Neetu Dabodia and others.
Three stolen motorcycles have been recovered from the accused duo, police said.
"The arrests were made yesterday by working on an authentic tip-off that the two accused would be arriving at Delhi's Cantonment area to sell stolen bikes. Based on this, a trap was laid by the police and they were nabbed," said a police official.
During interrogation, Sarkar revealed that he was previously involved in 12 criminal cases and was convicted for three years in a case of theft.
In December 2014, Sarkar had come out of jail and got involved in crimes like extortion and motor-vehicle thefts, police said.
"After coming out of jail Sarkar had demanded extortion money from Singh, who had clearly refused to pay. Soon, Sarkar and his associate orchestrated a plan of firing on him," he said.
Interrogation of Bunty revealed that he was previously involved in 36 criminal cases in which he was convicted in six cases.
Sarkar and Bunty came to know each other while serving their sentence in jail, police said.
