Playing backward caste card in the run-up to Lok Sabha polls, Samajwadi Party will kick off the second phase of 'Samajik Nyay Adhikar' yatra from January 5 to press for inclusion of 17 Most Backward Castes in Scheduled Caste (SC) list.

"The second phase of the yatra will start on January 5 and will culminate on January 11 in Jhansi, where party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav will address a rally," Minister and convernor of the yatra, Gyatri Prasad Prajapti told reporters.

The previous SP government had passed a resolution for inclusion of 17 most Backward Castes in Scheduled Caste and send it to Centre, which had not taken a decision on the matter, Prajapti said.

In February last year, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav had said that his government had sent its recommendation to the Centre for inclusion of 17 Most Backward Castes (MBC) in Scheduled Caste (SC) list.

The first phase of the yatra was flagged off by Mulayam Singh Yadav on October 24, and after passing through various districts it ended in December.

He said that the yatra will culminate in Jhansi, where the rally will be addressed by Mulayam and senior party leaders.
