Factory blast causes major fire at Nandesari industrial estate

A major fire broke out after a blast in a chemical company in Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation's (GIDC) Nandesari estate, on the outskirts of the city today, fire brigade sources of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) said.

A blast caused substantial damage to a chemical factory and caused panic in the adjacent Nandesari industrial estate.

Residents in the area including Amit Desai were very angry after chemical liquid from the factory entered the village forcing school authorities to ask students to go home.

"The blast damaged furniture and walls in several houses and shops located in Nandesari. Apart from VMC fire brigade vans, fire extinguishing vehicles of other companies located in the nearby areas too were pressed into action. It took about two hours to control the fire," Desai said.
 

"Those who suffered damages due to this fire will be compensated and the GIDC Estate Association will find out the how fire was caused," Atul Pandya, a member of the GIDC Estate Association said.
