Maharashtra BJP president Devendra Fadnavis today criticised MNS chief Raj Thackeray for targeting Narendra Modi, and alleged that his attack on the BJP's prime ministerial nominee was a futile attempt to reclaim the political space created by Modi in the state.

Raj had yesterday expressed displeasure over Modi not evoking late Bal Thackeray's name during his public rally in the city in December.

"Modi comes to Mumbai, holds a rally and forgets to take name of Balasaheb in his speech," Raj had said.

"I want to ask if those who caused pain to Balasaheb when he was alive have the right to ask this question," Fadnavis said today.

"The atmosphere created by Modi has occupied the political space in the country and also Maharashtra. That is why this political space is not available to leaders like Raj Thackeray. And this is his anguish," Fadnavis said, talking to reporters here.
