Police have contacted Twitter seeking information about an old photograph of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and his family which was recently uploaded on the popular micro-blogging site, allegedly to malign his image.

A police official said yesterday that one person had been arrested in the case. However, police today clarified that no arrest have been made yet.

"After we get the reply from Twitter officials (as to who uploaded the photo and the location from where it was uploaded) our investigation would proceed," said Dhananjay Kulkarni, spokesperson of Mumbai Police.

A 2012 photograph of Fadnavis, his wife and daughter on a yacht was recently circulated on social media platforms, including the Twitter, suggesting Fadnavis was enjoying with the family while on an official tour of US last week.

A complaint was lodged by Sanjay Pandey, a BJP worker, alleging the image and text was an attempt to slander the chief minister.

A senior police officer told PTI that since the case was politically sensitive, the investigators were proceeding cautiously.
