Suffering heavy losses in business and reeling under mounting debt, a middle-aged couple allegedly committed suicide here by consuming poison, police said today.

The couple, identified as Rajesh Tripathi (46) and Renu (43), allegedly consumed poison on Thursday at their Paredeshipura residence.

The couple was admitted at the nearby hospital where Rajesh died on the same day, while Renu succumbed this morning, Pardeshipura police station in-charge, S K Das said.

Heavy losses in their readymade garments business and mounting debt drove them to take the extreme step, he said, adding, a suicide note was recovered from the spot in which they had advised their son not to take up business in life.

It was also mentioned in the note that no postmortem should be performed and they be cremated at their ancestral village only, Das added.
