Fake Indian currency notes with face value of Rs 13.74 lakh were seized at Ankapalle in the district and ten persons arrested today, police said.

On a tip-off, police nabbed K Veeraju (40) from Tanuku in West Godavari district and A Srinivasa Raju (40) of Hyderabad and seized a parcel containing Rs 6 lakh counterfeit notes near the Anakapalle railway station this morning, Visakhapatnam SP Vikramjeet Duggal said.

"Based on the inputs provided by them, we arrested others from various locations and seized fake notes with face value of Rs 7.74 lakh," he said.

"Fake currency notes are suspected to be in circulation in Andhra Pradesh, southern Odisha and a few other states," Duggal said.

Police did not rule out that the counterfeit notes were printed in Pakistan and smuggled into India via Bangladesh.
