Police today claimed to have busted a recruitment racket that duped unemployed youths of lakhs of rupees on the pretext of giving them Railway jobs, with the arrest of its kingpin from Civic Centre in Kamla Market area here.
The accused Neeraj Kumar Singh was arrested by a Crime Branch team on a complaint of a victim who was promised job of a Railway Ticket Collector.
Neeraj, a management graduate, worked as an assistant manager with a multinational pizza outlet in Banglore and he started cheating unemployed youth after he himself was duped of Rs 8 lakh by cheats who had promised him a job with Railways, said Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime), Ravindra Yadav.
The racket run by Neeraj duped about 20 unemployed youths and earned several lakhs of rupees, he said.
The victims were contacted by the racket through telecallers and would be made to pay over Rs one lakh in the name of filling up application forms, medical examination and interview.
The victims were also sent to Kharagpur (West Bengal) and Dhanbad (Jharkhand) for medical examination and interview where gang members Amit and D K Sharma would meet each candidate and receive the money from them, the officer said.
Further investigation in the case was going on and efforts were being made to arrest the absconding members of the racket, he added.
