A Delhi court has granted bail to a Bangladesh national, allegedly involved in an international syndicate which used to facilitate Rohingya refugees and Bangladeshis in procuring Indian passports and visa for Middle East countries.

The court granted bail to 39-year-old Shaukat Ali, arrested in January, who allegedly used to provide passport to the terrorists on forged documents.

While seeking bail for the accused, his counsel M S Khan had submitted before the court that the investigation was complete in the case and the accused was already in custody for more than 120 days.

The police had claimed that the syndicate was headed by Ali, who was operating from south Delhi and had under it three modules - one based in Delhi and the other two at Hyderabad and Kolkata.

It had further claimed that sources of the syndicate at Bangladesh allegedly used to send photographs, names and other necessary details of the applicants to Ali.

Ali then forwarded those to his associates Noor Mohammad and Imam Chaudhary, both residents of Kolkata, the police had said.

It had further claimed that the syndicate also allegedly transferred money through Hawala operatives in Old Delhi.

One of Ali's associates would collect money from these hawala operatives on behalf of Ali and charge anything between Rs 1.50 lakh and 2 lakh for each passport which was shared among members, the police had said, adding that the accused persons used to send around 20 people to Middle East countries in a month.
