Meghalaya CID sleuths today seized several thousands of Phd theses, allegedly fake, concealed in highly secured rooms at the CMJ University here in the city, officials said.
"We have seized over 4000 printed PhD theses on subjects ranging from corruption in India to doping of sportspersons in Gujarat from the head office of the private CMJ University," a top CID officer said.
He said there were more than 6000 other theses which were 'dumped' at the varsity's campus at Jorabad along the inter-state border with Assam near Guwahati pending for seizure.

CID officers suspected that the theses were printed in one of the Collection Centres of the university in Kolkata based on the quality and the designs of the theses.
In the last three months after the FIR was lodged against the top officials of the university, police have identified printers in the capital and in Guwahati where thousands of marksheets were printed on a daily basis.
Former Meghalaya Governor R S Mooshahary had ordered lodging of an FIR against the Chancellor of the University Chandra Mohan Jha, after whom the university was named. Mooshahary had also sought for dissolution of the university for its involvement in illegal operations.
Established in 2009, the CMJ University has allegedly awarded a record number of 434 PhD degrees in the past one year apart from registering 490 more PhD scholars during the same year, the Governor secretariat had said.
While three officials including the University's registrar, his deputy and the HR manager were arrested, the self-appointed Chancellor of the University, Chandra Mohan Jha, has been on the run for the past three months.
