Fake Rs 2000 notes seized, one held

The police today seized 40 fake Indian currency notes in the denomination of Rs 2000 from a person at Islampur in Murshidabad district.

Acting on a tip off, the police captured Azizur Rahman from Islampur and seized from him counterfeit notes with a face value of Rs 80,000, Superintendent of Police Mukesh said.

Rahman, who hailed from Malda district bordering Bangladesh, was arrested.

Malda, the neighbouring district of Murshidabad, is considered a major smuggling point for fake Indian currencies.
