Punjab Congress today accused the ruling SAD-BJP combine in the state of lodging a false case against its state party vice president Gurpreet Singh Kangar.

Bathinda Police booked Kangar for allegedly indulging in violence during July 3 panchayat elections in the state.

In a PPCC statement issued here, the party alleged the case was registered at the behest of SAD minister Sikandar Singh Maluka and demanded cancellation of the FIR.

Congress would fight against the "highhandedness of the SAD-BJP government" to a logical end, it said.

The Congress leaders said Kangar and 10 other party leaders were booked in poll violation case, even though he was not present at the scene.

They alleged it was a clear case of vendetta registered at the behest of Maluka who was recently "exposed" by Congress for his alleged involvement in embezzlement of central funds meant for Sarv Sikhya Abhiyan.
