Authorities in Budgam and Baramulla districts of Jammu and Kashmir today ordered immediate evacuation of several families affected by soil erosion following recent heavy snowfall and rains.
The District Development Commissioner, Budgam, ordered immediate evacuation of several families after a high-level team headed by him visited parts of Chrar-e-Sharief tehsil to have on spot view of losses due to soil erosion, an official spokesperson said.
He said the team took an extensive tour of affected areas of Patwaw, Nilnag, Branwar, Nagam and Watkul and assured the affected families that assessment of losses due to erosion would be conducted on war footing in order to facilitate the sufferers with immediate relief and rehabilitation.

The DDC ordered evacuation of all the affected families to a safer place till the situation returns to normal in the worst-hit Nilnag area.
"A makeshift rental accommodation is being provided to the affected families at Nagam that includes free ration, blankets, medical help and other basic necessities," the spokesperson said.
So far, in Uri area of Baramulla district, the authorities evacuated 11 families to safer places following sliding of mud from hills in Zamboor Pattan village.
The schools in the affected areas have been closed as a precautionary measure, an official from Uri tehsil said.
