Families covered under PDS to get higher quantum of free rice

Puducherry government at its first cabinet meeting today decided to supply 20 kg of rice through ration shops to all the families covered under Public Distribution System (PDS).

Currently, the families are getting 10 kg a month.

The enhanced quantum of rice would be available to the families from August and a total of 3.35 lakh families would be covered under the scheme irrespective of income, a release from the Chief Minister's office said.

The government will supply 20 kg of rice through ration shops to all the families covered under PDS, it said.

Domestic consumers with less than 100 units of power consumption a month would be eligible for 50 per cent subsidy in the power tariff and this will benefit 1.23 lakh consumers in the Union Territory.
 

The subsidy would entail an expenditure of Rs 13 crores for the government, the release said.

Persons living below poverty line and whose annual family income is less than Rs 75,000 would be entitled to get medical assistance of Rs2.5 lakh against Rs 1.5 lakh available through Puducherry Medical Relief Society to get treatment in super speciality hospitals for critical illness.
