Family alleges threats by Naxals, gets police protection

Police in Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra have provided protection to a village Patil (headman) after he and his family left their village because of alleged threats by Naxals.

Shankar Achla and his family left Bhatmaryan village in Dhanora tehsil last month, police said in a press release.

He met the Superintendent of Police here on February 23 and said that he and his family would not go back to the village as the Naxals had threatened to kill them.

The Naxals were harassing him, questioning how he amassed his property, he told police.

After verifying the allegations, the SP ordered police protection for the family which has been put up at a safe place.
 

The district, which borders on Chhattisgarh, has witnessed Naxal activity off and on.
