Famous eye surgeon Dr Dhanwant Singh Gremal has died after prolonged illness, family sources said today.
87-year-old Gremal breathed his last at his residence yesterday, they said.
The deceased was decorated by Padma Shri award in 1981 by the Union Government. He, however, had returned the award in the protest after Army invaded Golden temple during Blue Star operation in 1984.

Gremal was survived by his son Dr Pushapwant Singh who performed his last rites today.
The cremation was attended by people from all walks of life, including doctors.
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal have condoled his death and extended their sympathies with the bereaved family.
