Explaining the case, they said that one Pargat Singh, who is a convict in a drug case and is serving his 12-year jail term here, and his father Gurdev Singh were booked after police found they were facilitating the supply to inmates allegedly in connivance with some jail officials.
While Pargat arranged inmates, his father Gurdev received payments for the same in his bank account at Bhagta Bhaika town of Bathinda district, police said.
According to investigations, a sum of Rs 5.5 lakh was deposited in Gurdev's account between August 2012 to June 2013 by the inmates' family members who sought drugs, the police said.
The amount was allegedly deposited in the account from many districts of Punjab, from Ganganagar in Rajasthan and also from Chandigarh.
Earlier in 2014, the police had booked 12 persons, including seven criminals and their five relatives, under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, for their involvement in the smuggling of drugs into the jail.
