Farmer agitation over erratic power supply today turned violent, leaving several persons including policemen injured here in Telangana.

A group of farmers blocked traffic on the busy Nagpur- Hyderabad National Highway near Narsingi village in Medak district to protest frequent power cuts, police said.

They pelted stones on policemen, injuring some of them. Police swung into action and used canes to disperse the agitating farmers, some of whom suffered injuries, they said.

Video footage showed some farmers bleeding due to head injuries sustained in the police action.

The agriculturists, demanding interrupted power supply for the farm sector in the area, also damaged two state-run buses, one police van and a private jeep, police said.

District Collector In-charge Sharath sent Revenue Divisional Officer (Medak) Vanaja Devi to the spot to take stock of the situation.

District officials assured the angry farmers that they will be provided with 6-hour uninterrupted power supply from tomorrow.
