A mustard farmer in Jalaun district claimed that his crop was allegedly trampled by the convoy of a Uttar Pradesh minister who later paid him Rs 4,000 for the damage.

The incident took place yesterday when the minister for jail and public service management, Jai Kumar Singh 'Jaiki', was in Orai to lay the foundation stone of a cowshed.

Singh today said, "The farmer Lalji Sengar had alleged that 8-10 vehicles of my convoy destroyed his standing crops. Firstly, there were no standing crops in the field, as the sown seeds were yet to germinate."

"Apart from this, my vehicle was parked within the gaushala premises. Still I took responsibility for the incident, and the BJP MLA of Orai Gauri Shankar gave Rs 4,000 to the farmer," he said.

The minister is an MLA of BJP's ally Apna Dal (Sonelal) from Jahanabad assembly constituency in Fatehpur district.
