A farmer today attempted to commit suicide in Dadri area demanding a hike in compensation for land being taken over by builders and was arrested, police said.
DSP Anurag Singh said "Surinder Bhati, a resident of Badpura, has been arrested for suicide attempt. He was produced before the SDM court and sent to jail".
Farmers under the banner of Kisan Maha Sangh and other farmers' bodies are demanding a hike in compensation for their lands and resolution of abadi land cases.
Farmers had given memorandum to the District Magistrate that if demands were not met by February 15 they will launch suicide attempts and process will continue till demands are met, said Roopesh Verma, spokesperson of Kisan Maha Sangh.
