A 35-year-old farmer was allegedly beaten to death by his wife and paramour after he objected to their illicit relationship in Bidhnu area, police said today.

The incident came to light yesterday when the body of Prem Kumar Rajput was kept for the final rites after his wife and prime accused Sangeeta claimed that he had died due to some illness.

The sister of the deceased, who lived in Takseempur area in Bidhnu along with his wife, however, alleged foul play in her brother's death and sought police's intervention in the matter.

The farmer's remains was then taken for post mortem and injury marks were found on his body. Further probe revealed that some blood spots were also found on the walls of the house where he lived, police spokesperson said, adding that Sangeeta was detained for questioning in this connection.

During interrogation, Sangeeta revealed that Prem objected to her relationship with her paramour Abhishek, so to avenge him the duo beat him up. She, however, claimed that this incident did not cause his death.

Police has sent the body for post-mortem and further probe into the matter is on, the spokesperson added.
