Farmer burnt to death

A 45-year-old farmer died as he caught fire while burning stubble in his farm at Haledh village here, police said today.

The incident occurred yesterday when the victim Dalip Singh and his son Kaushal (16), were burning straw in the field, they said.

The villagers rescued Singh and brought him to a hospital here. He was then referred to civil hospital at Amritsar but died on the way, police said.

The body has been sent for post-mortem and investigation is underway, they said.
