Farmer commits suicide in Raj

A 35-year-old farmer apparently distressed over low crop output allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling at Santruk village in Bharatpur district, police said today.

Titu hanged himself last night, Udyog Nagar Police said.

Local MLA Vishwendra Singh claimed that Titu was distressed over crop damage due to rains and yesterday when he found only 4 quintal of wheat output, he rushed to his house and committed suicide.

Singh demanded a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for Titu's family from the state government.

Meanwhile, District Collector Ravi Jain confirmed that a person had committed suicide but refused to comment on the reason of death, saying the matter was being probed by the police.
