Farmer ends life after crop losses in unseasonal rains

A 45-year-old farmer from a village in Dindori taluka here allegedly committed suicide after he suffered crop losses due to unseasonal rains in the district.

Dattatreya Popat Ghadvaje consumed insecticide last night when he incurred huge losses after a trader refused to buy his grape crop on account of damage in the rains which lashed various parts of Nashik last weekend, according to Dindori tehsildar Mandar Kulkarni.

Kulkarni said that the revenue department is also conducting an inquiry into the incident and making a 'panchanama' (review) of his agricultural losses.

Dindori police have registered a case of sudden death and the body has been sent for postmortem in the government hospital.
