A 40-year-old farmer allegedly committed suicide by consuming pesticide at his residence in Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh.

"A Narasinga Rao, a resident of Kothapeta village, was depressed after suffering losses. His paddy crop, raised on four-acre land, was unable to yield due to scarcity of irrigation water," Avanigadda Sub-Inspector D V Kumar said.

He had taken a huge amount of loan from private money lenders and was not being to repay them, the officer said, adding he was admitted to a government hospital where he died.

Prima facie, it seems he committed suicide, he said.

A case has been registered in this connection and investigations are underway, police said.
