Prominent Maharashtra farmer leader and MP Raju Shetty today embarked on a foot march with agriculturists to oppose the Land Acquisition Bill and highlight grievances of those who lost their land to a SEZ project at Khed near here.
Shetty, who heads Swambhimani Shetkari Sanghatana, set out on a 40km stretch from Khed and is scheduled to reach Pune tomorrow while addressing farmer rallies on the way.
The 47-year-old activist-cum-politician, whose party (Swabhimani Paksha) fought last Assembly polls in Maharashtra as a BJP ally, criticised the Land Bill, passed by the Lok Sabha.
Shetty alleged that the NDA government's move to acquire land under the proposed Act would only benefit the builder mafia and industrialist lobbies, and harm the interest of the poor tribals and farmers.
