Days after a tribal farmer in Yavatmal district allegedly committed suicide by jumping into a well along with his three children, police have arrested his wife and a farmland owner for allegedly driving him to take the extreme step.

"Vandana Kodape and the farmland owner Swapnil Banubaude (32) were arrested yesterday on the charge of abetting suicide of Vandana's husband Pandurang who jumped into well on Banubakude's farm after pushing his three children into it on Wednesday," said police inspector Hanumantrao Gaikwad.

He said the duo were booked under section 306 (abetment of suicide) of IPC after their interrogation.

Though police are yet to arrive at the exact motive behind the farmer taking the extreme step, the officer said the preliminary inquiry revealed that the deceased and his wife used to quarrel often as he was very poor.

"We are analysing various aspects that led Pandurang to take the extreme step of committing suicide with his three innocent kids," Gaikwad said, adding that further investigation is on.
