Farmer shot dead in Jharkhand

An aged farmer was shot dead in his sleep allegedly by unidentified assailants in Darua village in Palamau district last night, police said today.

The victim Bhagwan Dubey was sleeping in front of his house to beat the heat when the assailants opened fire, killing him on the spot, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Hiralal Ravi, said.

A police team rushed to the spot today to investigate the matter, he said adding that the body had been sent for post-mortem in Medininagar District Hospital.

Ravi said preliminary investigation suggested that the incident was a fall out over land dispute.

No one was arrested yet, he said adding that a hunt had been launched to apprehend the culprits.
