The opposition BJP and Congress disrupted proceedings in the Odisha assembly for the fifth consecutive day today demanding constitution of a House committee to probe into farmers suicide in the state.
As the House assembled for the Question Hour, the BJP MLAs rushed to the well of the House and shouted against the BJD government which they alleged was suppressing farmer suicide cases. They said the House Committee could reveal the exact cause of farmers suicide incidents.
The Congress legislators also supported the BJP members demand and advocated for formation of a House Committee to probe into farmers suicide cases.

"We can't understand why the government is not considering our suggestion for a House Committee which can bring the exact reason behind the loss of valuable lives. Once the report is tabled, everything will be clear on the deaths," said BJP member Pradeep Purohit.
Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra of Congress also advocated for a House Committee probe into the farmers suicide as the administrative inquiries have submitted different findings. He said the administrative inquiry by district collector and SP was not accepted as they gave different findings.
The ruling BJD members also said that they are not opposed to a House Committee probe into the farmers suicide cases. However, setting up a House Committee depends on the Speaker.
"We are ready for anything. But the Speaker will decide whether a House Committee on this matter should be formed or not. We are ready for the all party meet also," stated BJD member Sashi Bhusan Behera.
Government chief whip Ananta Das said: "There are two standing committees of the assembly for agriculture and irrigation. Therefore, setting up another committee may not be fruitful. One of the committees may probe into farmer suicide cases. However, Speaker may give direction in this regard.
