A 60-year old farmer today tried to jump before the motorcade of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in front of the state Assembly here, the police said.

Santosh Soni, a resident of Chhatarpur district, was reportedly upset over not getting the compensation for his land which was acquired for laying a high-tension power line.

The incident occurred on the road in front of the Assembly, shortly after Chouhan had left the premises in afternoon.

"A 60-year old person, later identified as Santosh Soni, tried to breach the security when the CM's cavalcade arrived in front of the state assembly, but the traffic police overpowered him," Superintendent of Police, Bhopal South, Siddarth Bahuguna told PTI.

Soni told the police that he was trying to register his protest over the land issue.

"Police are investigating his claim and related details," he added.
