The farmers are advised by the Agro Marketing Intelligence and Business Promotion Center in Tamil Nadu Agricultural University to sell coriander immediately upon harvest, since there was limited chance for price increase during March.

An analysis and traders survey carried out by the Centre here indicated that the prices may be around Rs 6,500 to Rs 7,000 per quintal in March as against the current price of Rs 6,200 to Rs 7,000.

Ramanathapuram, Virudhunagar and Thoothukudi districts accounted for about 76 per cent of total coriander area in the state, where it was mainly cultivated as inter crop under rain fed condition during October-November months.

Due to shortfall in state production, Tamil Nadu was more dependent on Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh coriander seeds, it said.

Since 2010, major cultivation districts were severely affected by droughts which led to poor arrivals resulted in increased price during the period.

The Centre analyzed the prices of coriander prevailed for the past 12 years in Virudhunagar market and conducted the traders survey and arrived at the price in March.
