'Farmers at Morni hills to be encouraged for organic farming'

Farmers living in the vicinity of in Morni Hills in Panchkula district, where the proposed world harbal forest will come up, will be encouraged to adopt organic farming, Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij said here today.

Vij today visited Thapli, Morni, Khera Bagda, Thana, Bhudi and Behlon villages Morni hills area along with Acharya Balkrishan of Haridwar-based Patanjali Yogpeeth, Jaideep Arya and other members.

Farmers living near herbal forest area would be inspired to adopt organic farming, grow organic vegetables, and resort to bee-keeping and such activities to increase their income, Vij said after his visit to the place.

Besides, it was also being considered to provide training to the farmers in natural medicine system, he said, adding that about 25,000 medicinal plants would be grown in Morni forest area.
 

An action plan was being prepared to take care of these plants and ensure water, he added.

The Minister said that Morni area would also be developed as an adventure sports hub and the state government was also considering a proposal to promote adventure sports like para-gliding in Morni.

He further added that several "Theme Parks" would be set up in the herbal forest, and the herbs which would be planted in these gardens would help in curing diseases.

Praising the Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and Vij, Acharya Balkrishan said the world herbal forest, being set up by the Haryana government, would be the first of its kind and people from the entire world would come to see it.

Vij, meanwhile, said that to meet the shortage of doctors in the state the government plans to recruit 800 to 900 doctors and the recruitment process would start soon.

Earlier, he said, National Health Mission (NHM) had recruited some doctors on contract basis, but they were not enough to meet the shortage.

Therefore, there was a need to recruit doctors on regular basis and soon these posts would be taken out of the purview of the Haryana Public Service Commission.

Vij also praised Sirsa Civil Surgeon for setting up an example by refusing to accept a bribe of Rs 10 lakh by a local doctor for his alleged involvement in carrying out female foeticide.

He said, the Health Department would honour him.

The Civil Surgeon had caught red-handed a private doctor allegedly involved in female foeticide, and the accused doctor had offered him Rs 10 lakh to set him free.
