Farmers body opposes amendments in Land Acquisition Act

Terming that proposed amendments in the Land Acquisition Act as 'anti-farmer', Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) today asked the government to address their concerns.

BKU in the letter to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, "Any amendment in the bill will be anti-farmers."

"Government should not take any such step (to amend the land acquisition bill), otherwise to safeguard the interests of

farmers the BKU will oppose and protest any such move," the letter added.

With Rs 60,000 crore worth of projects stuck due to delays in land acquisition, Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari had hinted at amending the Land Acquisition Act after consulting the states.
