Adressing at a party meeting ahead of the panchayat polls at Khandaghosh in Burdwan district, Roy said, "we have introduced crop insurance schemes for farmers, including agriculture labourers, who have waived electricity pump cost.

"The Trinamool has thought about you in its over one-and- half-year rule but not the CPI(M) which only took away your lands and pushed you to misery," the former union minister said.

Roy said despite mounting debt, "a legacy of the inept Marxists rule of over three decades, Mamata Banerjee has steered the state well and people didn't have to face the crunch much."

"On the law and order front, Mamata Banerjee has doused the flames in Darjeeling Hills and put a lid on the escalating Maoist violence in Jangalmahal where regular killings had become the norm in CPI(M) rule with 478 deaths reported during 2009-10," the Rajya Sabha member said.

He also blamed CPI(M) and Congress hatching conspiracy to discredit the Trinamool Congress.

Three Bengal ministers - Swapan Debnath, Malay Ghatak and Rabiranjan Chattopadhyay - were present at the meeting at Sagrai football ground.
