Farmers demand compensation

demonstration today at Chhatrapur, district headquarter town of Ganjam in Odisha demanding adequate compensation for loss due to recent heavy rain triggered by cyclone Nilam.

The farmers also demanded hike of the minimum support price (MSP) of paddy from Rs 1250 to Rs 2000 per quintal.

The farmer leaders urged the government to amend the relief code and make provision to pay at least Rs 10,000 per acre to the loss of the paddy crop due to natural calamities like flood and drought. Similar assistances should be provided to the share-cropper in the state, they said.
