Farmers today blocked roads and disrupted traffic in Ghadsana and Anupgarh towns in Sri Ganganagar district, demanding release of adequate amount of water for irrigation purpose from Indira Gandhi Canal.
"Farmers blocked some roads in Ghadsana and Anupgarh area demanding release of irrigation water from Indira Gandhi Canal. 40 people have been held for breaching peace," SP Sri Ganganagar Hari Prasad Sharma said.
However, police removed the agitating farmers and the roads were opened.

"Situation in the area is under control," Sharma said.
Former CPI (M) MLA Pawan Duggal said the farmers had been protesting over the issue for some days but their demands were not met. A call for bandh was given today across the state.
Duggal was also arrested by the police.
