Farmers hold agitation demanding release of water from Mettur

Members of the Tamil Nadu Farmers Association held an agitation before the district collectorate here today demanding immediate release of water from Mettur dam for raising samba crop.

President of the association, Sundaram told reporters that cultivation could not be taken up due to monsoon failure.

He said banks have been taking penal action against the farmers for failing to repay loans availed by them and requested to waive them.

They also demanded that Salem district be declared as drought hit.
