Farmers need to adopt new technologies in agri sector: Min

Union Steel Minister Chaudhary Birender Singh today urged farmers to adopt new technologies to succeed in the agriculture sector during his visit to Sriganganagar district today.

Citing example of Mauritius where farmers are excellently using drip irrigation in sugarcane crop, he said that drip and fountain irrigation methods can be used for multiplying production capacity in India as well.

The minister said the Centre is working on various aspects to double the income of farmers.

He said the Centre is studying the Indo-Pak Water Treaty for providing a permanent solution to the water problems of the area.

The minister further said the water going into Pakistan and then falling into ocean can be given to farmers of Haryana, Rajasthan and Punjab.
 

He also discussed about the Swaminathan report and suggested to get Rajasthan's representation in the Bakhra Beas Management Board (BBMB) and to set up a fruit processing unit (kinnu) plant in Sriganganagar district.

On this occasion, the Union Minister of State for External Affairs, Nihalchand, Chairman of the Rajasthan Minority Commission, Jasbir Singh and other dignitaries were present.
