At least 55 farmers of the district today submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner, seeking permission to sell their vital organs to repay bank loans.

In the memorandum addressed to the Prime Minister, the farmers, affiliated to Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU), demanded that the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of wheat and paddy be increased as they were bearing heavy losses while selling their produce to government agencies.

BKU state president Gurnam Singh said most of the farmers in the state were burdened with heavy debt and facing serious financial crises.

The banks had been issuing notices to the farmers for not paying the arrears and some banks were even putting up photographs of defaulting farmers, he said.

Singh said if their demands were not met, the farmers would gherao the Haryana Assembly on September 10.
