People's Movement of India, an organisation of various farmers' bodies, today slammed major political parties for their failure in fielding more number of women candidates, at least 33 per cent, in the Lok Sabha polls.

With almost all major political parties deciding their candidate lists, it was evident that there was lesser number of women candidates, C Nallasami, convenor of PMI said.

Political parties, day in and day out were demanding 33 per cent reservation for women in parliament and state assemblies but they were not practising what they were preaching, he said.

The parties, headed by women, have also not bothered to field more women candidates, he alleged.
