Bharti Kisan Union (BKU-Ekta) will launch a statewide agitation from August 24 to 28 in at least 12 districts of Punjab to check and stop the suicides by the farmers and agriculture labourers.

Farmers and their families will participate in the agitation against the "anti-farmers policies" of the state government and will be held in front of district headquarters, Joginder Singh Ugrahan and Sukhdev Singh Kokari President and General Secretary respectively of Bharti Kisan Union (Ekta) said here today.

Ugrahan and Kokari said that during the five days of protest, the community will press for the waiving of farm loan of the farmers.

They would also demand and press for the introduction of Money Laundering Act in the state, they said.

The leaders were critical of Parkash Singh Badal-led government for allegedly not providing exgratia amount of Rs three lakh to each of the family of farmers and agriculture labourers, who had committed suicide, along with employment opportunity to one of their family member.
