Raising demands to increase the compensation for their land, disgruntled farmers today ploughed the area alloted for construction in Siddhartha Vihar area here.

The farmers, under the aegis of Siddhartha Vihar Kisan Sangharsh Samiti, demanded hike in the compensation from Rs 1400 to Rs 4200.

Ajit Bainsla, president of the Samiti said that the farmers whose land was acquired by Avas Vikas Parishad Uttar Pradesh (AVPUP) for constructing houses have been staging a dharna from the last seven days and had also clamped the site office earlier.

Bainsla alleged that during the process of land acquisition, they were promised a compensation of Rs 4200 per square metre which was later refused.

The sit-in would continue till the demands were accepted, he said.
