The protesters threatened to stage dharna in different parts of the district if the government did not withdraw the notification.

The protests would be staged before the prominent BJP leaders of the district, including the local MLA and the party district president, they said.

Meanwhile, an elderly farmer whose land was also being acquired died due to intense cold in Furla village last night, sources said.

His family members and union leaders have alleged that the farmer died due to the shock suffered from to the government notification.

For over a month, the farmers have been holding protests against the government notification.

Members of a farmers' organisation held the district authorities responsible for the government notification.

The poor debt-ridden farmers were being deprived of their land to benefit the Multi National Companies, the protesters said.
