An assistant sub-inspector was today allegedly thrashed by a group of farmers in Hansi, about 26 km from here, who tore his uniform and injured him when the distribution of urea in police post grain market was stopped for a while, police said.
ASI Dharamvir Singh was injured police said, adding, aggressive and angry farmers blocked the traffic on Jind road for a while.
When additional force reached there the farmers allegedly pelted stones and broke glass of an SHO's jeep.
"The police exercised restraint and persuaded the farmers to be patient and observe discipline so that distribution of urea could be started again," a police spokesman said.
He said the farmers relented when the urea distribution was resumed in Hansi.
In Hisar, the situation turned volatile when farmers did not accept police's appeal to end blockade on Sirsa road, which they had blocked alleging that they were not getting their urea fertiliser supply on time.
Meanwhile, a farmer, Sanjay, was injured and later admitted to civil hospital.
Police spokesman denied allegations that Sanjay was injured in a lathicharge by police, saying he might have been injured some other way.
Many farmers alleged that senior administrative officers are avoiding facing the angry farmers and police alone is tackling the situation.
Angry over the alleged non-availability of urea fertiliser, scores of farmers had last month resorted to blocking rail and road traffic at many places across Haryana.
However, later, the Haryana Government had assured the farmers that urea supplies were adequate and appealed to the peasants not to resort to "panic buying" and stock up the fertiliser well beyond their requirement as that may cause scarcity in future.
