Press Trust of India Coimbatore
Nearly 100 farmers, belonging to Tamilaga Vyavasiyagal Sangham, today staged a demonstration in nearby Mettupalayam, against erection of high tension electricity towers in agriculture land.

Led by M R Sivasamy, the farmers alleged the government had not given the compensation for erecting such towers in many farm lands earlier and was installing towers again now, posing problems to the farming community, police said.

The farmers said they were loosing about 60 feet of fertile land due to the construction.

They sought adequate compensation to the already occupied land and also new land being taken for construction of towers, police said.
