The Sangha President K S Puttannaiah blamed the state government for its "failure" to place before the Supreme Court on the distress situation and low water storage level in reservoirs, which led to the apex court asking Karnataka to consider release of water to Tamil Nadu.
The water level in Kabini, K R S and Hemavathi remained low, he pointed out and flayed Tamil Nadu's demand for water for Kuruvai and Samba crops.
He warned that the Sangha would intensify their stir if the state did not protect farmers interest.
In a goodwill gesture, Karnataka government today agreed before the apex court to release 10,000 cusecs of water from Cauvery river to Tamil Nadu till September 20.
