Around two hundred farmers assembled at Kisan Chowk in Noida Extension raised slogans against authority and builders, demanding resolution of hiked compensation and abadi land disputes.

"Our demand is that unless authority pays the hiked compensation and resolves the abadi land issues and village development works are initiated we will not allow construction activity," Manvir Bhati, a farmers' leader said.

Police had made elaborate arrangements to prevent violence.

Farmers marched towards Gaur City and removed labourers found working at the site out of the premises, while at Supertech, farmers used lathis to push the working labourers out of the premises.

Seeing farmers, several labourers stopped work and ran away. Other premises where farmers stopped work included Amrapali project and nearby projects.

Labourers raised objection against assault by the farmers.

"Why farmers are assaulting us? We are labourers and have to work daily to earn livelihood for our families. If farmers have any dispute with builder they should talk to builder representatives," said Duli Prasad, a labourer.

Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority Chief Executive Officer Rama Raman appealed to farmers not to stop construction work as non-development also affects farmers.

Unless the development process is put back on track, banks will not start disbursement of loans, he said.

GNIDA officers were in a fix as varied farmers groups were raising different demands each time.

So far, GNIDA has disbursed Rs 150 crore towards hiked compensation and resolved abadi land disputes in over two dozen villages.

One group of farmers was against taking hiked compensation and instead rooted for waiting for Supreme Court order.

"If farmers accept hiked compensation their case at Supreme Court would be weakened," said Roopesh Verma, another farmers leader.
