"Commerce, Industry and Textiles Minister Anand Sharma has ordered Textiles Commissioner (A B Joshi) to visit Vidarbha to inquire into the news reports on cotton farmer suicide," a statement issued by the Textiles Ministry said.

Earlier in the day, a senior official told PTI in Nagpur that "two farmers have committed suicide in the Yavatmal district."

The deceased have been identified as Ajabrao Meshram of village Shivani and Ramnna Pedkulwar of village Aril.

Meanwhile, activists claimed that low cotton yield was one of the factors which had forced farmers to take the extreme step.
