Farmers to get farm training from Thailand

The district administration has sent a proposal to the Centre for sending a team of tapioca farmers from the district to Tailand for high tech trainiing, Higher Education Minister P Palaniyappan said here today.

Inaugurating a seminar on maize cultivation he said Tamil Nadu bagged Central Government's 'Krishi Karman' award by achieving 106 lakh metric tonne foodgrains produce by 2011-12.

Due to the failure of monsoons the state level food grains production target has been reduced from 100 lakh matric tonne to 112 lakh metrict tonne in 2013-14, he said.

In Dharmapuri, the maize crop has been cultivated in 10,000 hectares.
 

He said the Government had allotted Rs 1.50 crore for establishing bio-fertilizer zones and Rs. 50 lakh allotted for establishing tamarind processing unit in Pennagaram and Rs 20 lakh allotted for value added aromatic perfume unit from Palmrose plant in Dharmapuri.
