Several farmers in Punjab have decided to hold yet another agitation in the state in the first week of November to press for their demands which include appropriate compensation for crop damage.
Different farmers unions have decided to again launch their agitation and for this purpose and two district headquarters have been selected where the peasants would stage dharna and hold rallies from November 4-6.
The farmers will hold agitations at Amritsar and Moga, Sukhdev Singh Kokari, General Secretary, BKU-Ekta Ugrahan, said here today.
He claimed that the SAD-BJP alliance government was not serious regarding farmer's demands.
He also said that if the government failed to concede to their demands then farmers would be forced to intensify their agitation.
Kokari further said that it has been decided to gherao Punjab ministers and other leaders of the ruling combineduring that period.
Among other demands, the farmers have asked for Rs 40,000 per acre compensation for damage caused to cotton crop due to the white fly pest attack.
Protesting farmers in Punjab had earlier this month decided to call off their seven-day 'Rail Roko' stir, which had crippled rail services in the state.
However, the farmers had said their agitation against the Parkash Singh Badal government would continue in support of their demand for higher compensation.
Earlier, the farmers' agitation, which began on October 7, had paralysed rail movement in Punjab as over 1,100 trains were affected because of protest in Ambala and Ferozepur divisions of railways, causing inconvenience to passengers and heavy loss to financial loss to railway authorities.
